Great fun, great sound, lots of talent. This is a thriving, happy, and sociable group of about 30 musicians. The standard of play is quite high, but we always welcome new players at approximately Grade 5 standard and above. We rehearse every Tuesday evening – apart from a couple of weeks off at Christmas and in the Summer Holiday period.

Our programme is hugely varied with well over two hundred pieces of music in our repertoire. The Performing Arts Centre at the Magus School, Bowbridge Road, Newark, is our rehearsal venue on Tuesday nights from 7 - 9 pm. Entrance at the Sports Complex opposite Newark Hospital.

Dave Taylor is our Musical Director and certainly keeps us on our toes for two hours! David Taylor LRSM was born in Spalding, Lincs.  He has spent most of his working life (1980 - 2004) as an Army musician.  His final position being that of Band Sergeant Major, Army Air Corps Band.  During his army career he visited many places, including most of Europe, America and the Middle East.  One highlight was when, in 1988 he was part of a 9 piece band who went from Gibraltar to Malaga to provide the backing for "The Four Tops"

Dave has been back in civvie street since 2004. He is a peripatetic and private music teacher, freelance saxophonist and conductor.

The members of Newark & Sherwood Concert Band are warm, friendly, welcoming and well organised. Caroline is the secretary, Sam manages our large music library and 'Medium Roger' is our treasurer. Peter White - tenor sax - has been coerced into building and maintaining this website, for which we are really grateful!  We must mention Liam who comes along to rehearsal most weeks during the interval and provides the refreshments - what a lovely man he is! 

After each rehearsal several of us meet in the The Fox & Crown Pub on Appletongate, to discuss and plan future events - just an excuse really to unwind and socialise!  We have two social gatherings per year for all members, which are paid for from Band funds.
